A little more about me
I’m an oil field engineer turned investment banker turned wanna-be data scientist and part-time author. Educated in Ghana, the United Kingdom, the United States and France, I now live and work in Johannesburg. My time in the oil industry took me to the fetid swamps of the Niger delta and the harsh expanses of the Sahara, with lengthy stopovers in several countries in between. The most rewarding part of this decade-long adventure was by far the occasions when I stepped out of the confines of the expatriate compounds and into the bustling cities beyond.
Since leaving the oil field, I’ve been extremely fortunate in that my work in data science draws heavily on story telling. I think one of the goals of a great piece of analyses is to tell such an intriguing story that your listeners are compelled to look on the world differently once you’re done.
I enjoy cycling, cooking and spending time with my children Nathan and Noemi. Unfortunately my late wife Thando passed away early in 2012 after a protracted illness. I remarried in 2017 - my wife Bridget is the one in the photo and she remains as wonderful as ever. I gave up trying to bring down a stubborn golfing handicap long ago and now split my time unevenly between working in data science and writing.
