I suppose if I hadn't realised the countdown to my August book launch had begun, I was reminded of it yesterday morning when I went in for a photo shoot in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg. The photographer, Nicolise, blonde, petite and suspiciously happy for a cold winter's morning, carried with her a camera with a lens so big you could probably see distant galaxies through it. No wonder I felt intimidated.
"Don't be," she said.
"What?"
"Intimidated." Then she crept forward, brandishing the camera lens in front of her, like a member of a SWAT team entering a dangerous 'situation'.
"Just relax."
My dentist says that too.
In truth it wasn't that bad and by the end I'd even started to enjoy it. I haven't seen the pictures yet. But whatever Nicolise's technique couldn't fix - and she was very good - I'm sure Photoshop will do the trick.
